Health Information Technology

Welcome to BCBSKS' Health Information Technology (HIT) Web page. The nation's healthcare system has been undergoing a transformation in the past several years in an effort to improve quality, as well as safety and efficiency of care through the upgrade to the ICD-10 code set and information exchanged through Electronic Health Records (EHR).

To help facilitate this vision, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, or the "HITECH Act" established programs under Medicare and Medicaid to provide incentive payments for the "meaningful use" of certified EHR technology.

Providers and patients must be confident that the electronic health information technology (health IT) products and systems they use are secure, maintain data confidentially, work with other systems to share information, and perform a set of well-defined functions. In order to achieve these objectives, the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) established standards, implementation specifications, and certification criteria for health IT.
