Carolyn R. Banning, CPA/PFS, Dodge City, Jeffrey R. Thompson, Salina and Jena K. Lysen, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Wichita, were among four directors elected to four-year terms on the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Board of Directors at its annual meeting May 11 in Topeka. Andrew C. Corbin, Topeka, was re-elected to a new four-year term.
Banning is a certified public account with Smoll & Banning CPA's, LLC, while Thompson is president and CEO of Salina Vortex Corporation, a Salina-based manufacturing company. Lysen is vice president of human resources for Allen, Gibbs & Houlik, LC, a CPA and advisory firm in Wichita. Corbin is president/CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.
In addition to the election of board members, Diane L. Lee, CPA, CSEP, Hutchinson, was elected to a second, one-year term as board chair, while Leonard R. Hernandez, New Strawn, was elected to a second, one-year term as vice chair. Lee, who is a certified public account with Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk and Loyd, LLC, joined the board in 2008. Hernandez, CEO of Coffey Health Systems, joined the board in 2012.
Three long-time directors retired from the board in conjunction with the annual meeting.
Leon J. Boor, retired hospital administrator from Abilene, joined the board in 1976 and served as chairman from 1988 to 1990. Gary D. Shorman, president/CEO of Eagle Communications, Hays, served on the board since 2005 and was chairman from 2010 to 2013. Susan M. Smith, senior vice president and chief human resources officer for GLMV Architecture in Wichita, served on the board since 2004.
Other members of the board are James M. Alley, III, D.D.S., Valley Center; Gregory V. Binns, Hutchinson; Rick C. Jackson, Topeka; Megan L. Jones, Topeka; James A. Klausman, Topeka, Robin R. LacKamp, Wichita; Thomas C. Simpson, M.D., Sterling; Steve W. Sloan, Pittsburg; Cathy Mih Taylor, M.D., Chanute; and Kenneth W. Winter, Dodge City.
