Cash benefits on day one
Your employees receive $50 per day for day one through day three.
Benefits continue and increase
Your employees receive $200 per day for day four through day 365. Day of discharge included.
Higher starting benefit for accidents
Your employees receive $200 daily starting on day one when hospitalized due to an accident.
Double benefits when in ICU
$200 benefit doubles to $400 per day when they’re admitted in intensive care or a coronary care unit within a hospital.

Cash benefits are paid directly to your employees to spend as they choose, including gas, meals, lodging for family, babysitters, and more.

Simple claim filing
Employees ask the hospital for an itemized statement of their stay and submit it with their Hospital Indemnity Plan Claim Form (pdf).

The Secure Hospital Indemnity Plan (S-HIP) pays cash if you are hospitalized.

- Coverage for dependents (unmarried dependents by birth or adoption to age 23 and unmarried dependents incapable of self-support) - see contract for details
- Any portion of a hospital admission that is primarily for skilled nursing care (including swing beds) rather than acute
- Admission for the primary purpose of performing acupuncture
- Admissions for dental care
- Admissions that are not medically necessary
- Inpatient skilled care, intermediate care, convalescent care, custodial/maintenance care or rest cures
- Admission to rehabilitation facilities (not acute care)
For groups to be eligible for this product, there must be participation greater of 2 or 25% of benefits-eligible employees.
Employees are eligible to enroll at initial opportunity, during a qualifying event, or during open enrollment.
Employees may not have duplicate hospital indemnity coverage through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.
Should an employee be identified as having multiple hospital indemnity coverages, the duplicate policy or policies will be cancelled and the premiums will be refunded for each duplicate policy.
